Audiences and Lists

Audiences and Lists are one of the basic elements of a journey. Almost every journey starts with an audience, containing the contacts targeted by journeys. Audiences alone is not enough, to effectively manage campaigns, you also need data linked to your audience, like the customer's loyalty card info or his preferences. These data lists, loyalty card info and preferences, are usually linked 1-on-1 with the audience list. They are also called "profile extensions", the contact only has one linking record in the data list, extending his profile information. Other lists can be linked 1-to-many with the audience list, where the contact has many records in the linked list. For instance, for order information, the contact can have many orders in the linked order list. Creating links between lists is defined in list 'relations'. Each list has a type, which defines its use. An audience list stores contacts, and an article list articles for newsletters,

When you first acquired Selligent Campaign, a lot of considerations had to be made. One of the first things to consider is what information do you need in this environment. You probably already have a system managing your data, and not all of it is necessary for campaign management. For instance importing your entire invoice database is probably not needed if you never going to send an invoice email. A database scheme will help.

Some lists are created manually, by the user and it is the user who decides on structure and content. Some fields are generated automatically, other fields are created by the user himself. Data has to be transferred from and to Selligent Campaign, preferably with automated tasks or with  manual imports and exports.

Other lists are generated automatically, by the system, when an integration with other tools has been set up. The structure of these lists is predefined and they can be linked to the audience list. For instance, Form will automatically generate a table to hold a survey's answers and link it to the audience list.
